No new cold weather records yet

It may have felt like it over this weekend (January 12-13), but no new record lows were set.

Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton confirming that the coldest the temperature was minus 16.0 degrees Celsius and that was at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

As for the windchills, they felt like between minus 20 and minus 23 on Sunday morning — not even close to the record lows recorded at CFB Trenton.

The record for January 13th of minus 30.0 Celsius was set in 1971, while the lowest temperature for January 12th of minus 33.6 degrees was set ten years later in 1981.

The average low for this time of year is around minus 12.
